The new Barbie movie starring Margot Robbie & Ryan Gosling will be released next month! It has been all of the hype on social media. Perhaps because Barbie is such a huge part of many of our childhoods, or at least those of us born 1990 or earlier.

The Barbie movement is more than nostalgia though. Barbie is the representation of girlhood, femininity, and adolescence. Barbies were all about play and imagination. The bright pink colors are both exciting, energetic and girly.
You would think in today's world that liking Barbie would be unacceptable, given the unrealistic body proportions and stereotypical "feminine traits". In a modern day world where gender norms are being blurred, it's hard to say how the online community will react to the film.
The fashion community, however, is bending over backwards to hop on this #barbiecore movement. It perhaps started with the all pink collection dropped by Valentino for FW 22/23. The pink hype has not died down since!
